Session aims and objectives
- To understand how to properly prepare for a newborn baby check
- To be able to proficiently perform a systems examination of the neonate
- To be able to identify abnormal findings during a systems review of the newborn
- To be able to communicate the findings effectively and sensitively with parents or carers
Tips & Tricks:
- The neonate examination exposes students to often unfamiliar conditions and unfindings, ensure there is adequate time to cover everything or even conduct the module over two sessions!
- It is recommended that this tutorial is supported by practice examinations on real neonates- this is often done best as a subsequent session to allow for knowledge consolidation
